1947. loretta and Walter Harris move to a farm. To his parents’ house. Walter is a writer, Laura is an unemployed housewife. Neither is doing well.

The family is experiencing financial difficulties. The situation is complicated by the fact that Walter owes money to some people. And although the man keeps his wife in the dark, Laura guesses, as she guesses, that Walter is cheating on her.

Laura realizes: she gave up her dream, her job, and her opportunities for a loser man whom she does not even love, and now finds herself in an empty and cold house without a livelihood.

With difficulty renewing another loan, she learns that the publishing house has insured Walter’s life: in the event of his death or declaration of missing, the payment is 30 thousand dollars. Laura comes up with a plan.
