The game recreates the campaigns and battles of the legendary German Afrika Korps, commanded by Erwin Rommel, nicknamed the “Desert Fox”. The war takes place between 1941 and 1942. The Axis forces are fighting for the most valuable prize – the Suez Canal. You can also command the 8th Army to fight off the invaders.
Afrika Korps contains many scenarios covering various military clashes from 1940 to the end of 1942 in the deserts of Libya and Egypt. Small scenarios tell about such famous operations as “Crusader” or “Halberd”, or, for example, “The Battle of El Alamein”. Medium-sized campaigns are related to “Operazione E” of 1940, the failed invasion of Egypt and O’Connor’s counteroffensive. There is, for example, a campaign that begins in the spring of 1941 with the arrival of the German Afrika Korps, while another covers the war from 1942 onwards. Finally, the final campaign scenario will allow you to lead Rommel or the Commonwealth forces from El Agheila in 1941 to El Alamein in late 1942.
Scenarios range in length from 4 turns (for smaller campaigns) to 42 or more. Each turn is 2 weeks long (from April 1941 to December 1942, plus the additional months of 1940 in the Italian Offensive scenario). One player represents the German and Italian Axis forces in North Africa (land and air), while the other commands a range of forces: British, Indian, Australian, South African, Polish, Greek, Free French and RAF units fighting for the Allies.
