SGS Battle of Stalingrad is the first game in our new SGS Battle Series, featuring intense battles and engagements in well-known (or not so well-known) small but action-packed locations; a “large” tactical scale for regiment, battalion, company and even platoon (depending on the game) and game turns that represent a very short real-world period of time (one or two days, half a day, a few hours…).
One of the many unique features of the Battle Series compared to other SGS is the unit activation system, which means that not all units will necessarily be able to move and fight in one turn. This will only be possible if they have been activated. And depending on the battles or episodes during them, the activation restrictions will matter more or less.
Stalingrad, one of the most famous and bloodiest battles of World War II, considered by many to be the turning point in the conflict, is depicted in this game, where you can play as either the German or Soviet side, against another player in PBEM or in hot seat mode, against the AI.
SGS Battle for Stalingrad covers the period from September to November 1942 (the battle as a whole covers the period from August 23, 1942 to February 2, 1943). That is, until the encirclement of Stalingrad.
In mid-November, when the game ends, the fate of the German forces trapped in Stalingrad is sealed. But perhaps you will manage to capture Stalingrad before the Soviet counteroffensive (from November 19 to February 2, 1943), thereby complicating Moscow’s plans? Or, as a Soviet player, perhaps you will hold the city more effectively, putting the Germans in an even more precarious position than the historical one when your counteroffensive comes? Each quarter of the city will become the arena of a thousand battles.
The game will contain a large-scale campaign scenario covering the battle from September to November, as well as other (medium or shorter – see below) scenarios based on different starting days or limited to certain areas (Tractor Factory, Mamayev Kurgan, The Last German Assault, etc.) of the battle.
The player will also find historical events in the game.
Most of the events create even greater immersion by adhering to historical reality. All of them are carefully designed with extensive historical research in mind, to go beyond the game, bringing its gaming dimension closer to what could be an interactive history book.
