Halls of Montezuma is a recreation of the Mexican-American War of 1846-1848.
Play as the United States and conquer Mexico City before congressional opposition forces a negotiated peace. As Mexico, resist the enemy’s advance desperately to buy time for the war to be ended by American domestic politics.
The Halls of Montezuma contains several scenarios covering different periods of the Mexican-American War of 1846-1848. The war was started by US President Polk on the grounds that the Rio Grande River should be the southern border of Texas, while Mexico claimed the Nueces River as the border.
A short scenario covers the early stages of the war over disputed territories in southern Texas and to the West, California and New Mexico. Another scenario is devoted to Scott’s famous campaign of 1847, from the landing at Veracruz to the capture of Mexico City. And of course the full Grand Campaign covers the entire war.
The scenarios range from 10 turns (for the small) to 44 turns, each representing a two-week period from April 1846 to March 1848.
One player represents the land and naval forces of the United States of America, the other the land and naval forces of Mexico.
